The Ford F150 Lightning was first introduced in in 1993 as Ford's entry into the sport truck market to compete against Chevrolet's 454SS pickup. Although the Lightning received a number of special cosmetic upgrades and a sportier suspension, it still retained the 5.8L V8 found in the standard F150. So it lacked the power to back up its great looks. Ford corrected this with the second generation of the SVT Lightning. The second generation SVT Lightning, based on the tenth generation of the F150, received a number of cosmetic upgrades including sportier front bumper, special rocker covers with side exit exhaust on the passenger side, and Lightning specific 5-spoke wheels.
